ORANGUTAN CARING WEEK: 10 - 16 November 2024
This Orangutan Caring Week takes place 10 - 16 November.
The theme ‘Orangutans Leading the Way: One Planet, One Future’ invites us to consider the role of orangutans in rainforest conservation and to make sure we are doing our part too.
Orangutans are the only tree-dwelling great ape species and have evolved with the rainforest over centuries. In return for a suitable habitat, offering food and nest-building materials, they assist the forest with seed dispersal and making gaps in the canopy so that light can penetrate and reach the forest floor below.
The role of orangutans in mitigating climate change is critical.
